Thailand's LPG, CNG and gasoil demand soars, led by subsidies

Thailand's consumption of LPG, CNG and gasoil are soaring led by the politically-motivated subsidy scheme which insulates consumers from rising prices, encouraging usage.

Demand for CNG, commonly known as natural gas for vehicles or NGV in Thailand and used as an alternative automotive fuel, surged in January by 34.5% over the same period last year to 207,000 Mcf/d, mirroring the continuation of the trend from the whole of 2010 when consumption jumped 26.8% to 181,000 Mcf/d.
